Goldilocks Locates the Best Latex Mattress to Replace Her 35-Year Old Latex Mattress!

Unlike the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," where Goldilocks tried sleeping on two beds before she found that the third bed was just right for her -- my nickname is Goldilocks, but this isn't a fairy tale. This is A REAL STORY about locating my perfect latex mattress 40 years past, once I bought my first bed, and my hard hunt to locate a replacement.

I used to babysit our neighbor's kids while growing up. She invited me to her house one day to imply I buy a latex mattress like hers, when she discovered I Had gotten engaged. She pulled the sheets off her king size bed so that she could show me the mattress hadn't sagged, and pointed out the corners and borders were still solid after an incredible period of time. I wish I could recall the precise variety of years she had told me that she and her husband was using their mattress, but I do recall that because of her small demonstration, I understood that I needed to buy a latex mattress just like it even though I afterwards found that it'd cost me about twice what the typical 'spring' mattresses were selling for at the time. I hunted the local furniture stores, but couldn't locate this latex mattress everywhere. I recalled that when we'd proceeded south, my mom had bought much of her furniture from a sales rep at a big furniture store in a nearby town. He said that although the shop didn't carry this mattress, he could order it, and I requested him to purchase a sturdy latex mattress for me "SIGHT UNSEEN."

My loving husband and I slept on this latex mattress for 35 years without experiencing any aches or pains as we grew old, and we partly credit our independence from medicine and the good health we love to this latex mattress! It was not until about the 33rd year when we discovered that the cover was wearing out and exposing the latex in a few places, so we just set it in a zippered mattress cover. This worked nicely until the 34th year, when we began finding little sagging and body indentations. We then started our investigation to buy another latex mattress like it. I searched online for precisely the same latex mattress maker, but was disappointed to discover that they'd shut their doors. A neighbor suggested we see a little, local mattress manufacturing company in our region whose family was assembling mattresses for 3 generations. I needed to make sure he could supply exactly the same latex as that of our first latex mattress. I told the owner the name of its maker, and I recall him saying, "All latex is the same." He was incorrect! Having bought three mattresses within a 3-year span, I consider I am qualified to report: ALL latex is different!

About one year after, we found we were not sleeping comfortably because our brand new latex mattress was sagging with minor valleys on either side of the bed. We called the producer. It took a while for him to come check on it, but when he did see it, he said that it did not seem like it was sagging. I reminded him that when I Had called him, I Had told him that he wouldn't see the sagging -- he had to lay on the bed to sense the valleys. He didn't lay on the bed, but he did shove his hands down into the mattress in a number of different places and he was surprised to see how deep his hands "sunk down" into the mattress... like there wasn't much support.

He ordered a fresh latex mattress to replace it, but this time he ordered the most solid one he could. This latex replacement mattress that is second did nicely until we had had it nearly one year, and once again we detected sagging with small valleys. This time I did some investigating and found the firm that made my 35-year old latex time to visit whatsthebestbed was in business but was three hours away. We made the trip one weekend just to discover the firm had cheapened the manner it was constructing its latex mattresses. We located a substantial block of solid latex in a clear zippered plastic case beside a latex mattress, which led us to consider the mattress was made of this solid latex. However , as soon as we lifted the mattress to see if it was 'hefty' latex like our 35-year old latex mattress, we were quite surprised to find how lightweight this brand new mattress was! After speaking to the shop owner, we learned the old maker had sold its business together with its company name, and the brand new owners were sandwiching a thin piece of latex between layers of polyurethane foam, and edging it with polyurethane foam around the outside edges, which he said would draw out the life of this so called 'latex' mattress. We subsequently found the mattress was finished on ONE-SIDE JUST. I am going to never comprehend how these brand new attributes would help the consumer, but I can see the life of this so called 'latex' mattress is shortened, which certainly helps the mattress makers.

After returning home and studying the web, we understand what the huge mattress makers are doing. You'll discover that nearly all the big mattress makers, who've been in operation for generations, have resold their businesses. A number of these brand new owners and investors are interested in producing big, instant returns on their investments. They've redesigned and promoted their mattresses to place large gains in their own pockets, but the shortcuts they're getting to raise their gains are reducing the useful life of their mattresses. If they get together and decide to cut the life of their products in half, we consumers are induced to purchase their products MORE FREQUENTLY and all of them gain even more. For example: One of their shortcuts and promotion strategies is designed to sell you on the advantages of buying a "one sided" mattress, but in fact, the life of your mattress was cut in half and you'll need to purchase at least twice as many mattresses in your lifetime if you need to sleep comfortably. Inside my hunt for the best latex mattress, I really talked to one mattress shop owner years past who acknowledged she wished they'd 'bring back' the 2- .

We also learned that the two preceding sturdy latex mattresses we possessed started to "sink and neglect" after one year because they weren't made of the stronger Dunlop Latex. They were made of the newer Talalay Latex, which is processed by comprising more atmosphere which could cause the mattress to compress and soften over time. After learning the differences between both production procedures, I associate an Angle Cake with the softer Talalay Latex, and I associate a Pound Cake with the stronger Dunlop Latex. I had even spoke to the Talalay mattress manufacturing company that made both of our latex mattresses which dampened after just one year. One of their customer service representatives explained that she loved how her Talalay mattress softened over time and "adapted" to her body to cushion it. I told her that she was quite youthful and what she considered cushioning, my loving husband and I considered uneasy valleys. We required and anticipated a mattress to provide the support our bodies five, or maybe seven years. They wouldn't replace the second one, although the business did replace that first Talalay mattress that neglected after the first year. And, BUYER BEWARE: All mattress guarantees aren't the same. Please read and "understand" ALL the states of your warranty BEFORE you buy your mattress.
